About IMU

Inner Mongolia University Press

Founded in 1985, the press had been implementing corporate management mode for institutional organizations for a long period of time. In December 2010, the press was transformed into a one-person liability limited company with independent legal person status. As a small-scale enterprise, the press specializes mainly in the publishing of books with over 300 kinds of books turned out annually on average, most of which are academic monographs and college textbooks, with a sales revenue amounting to about RMB30 million and a profit approximating RMB3 million.

The press is the only university press in Inner Mongolia and one of the few university presses in China that adhere to the publishing of books in ethnic scripts. Over the years, in the absence of loss subsidies for the special national language publications, the press has persisted in the publication of Mongolian books and published more than 600 kinds of Mongolian language college textbooks and academic monographs. In 2015, approved by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, the press organized the translation and publishing of the Mongolian version of President Xi Jinping’s Shaking off Poverty, the only version in an ethnic minority language published so far, in collaboration with Minzu Publishing House.

Sticking to correct orientations, emphasizing ethnic features and displaying academic tastes, the press has been committed to serving the social and economic development of Inner Mongolia. More than 3,000 kinds of books have been published by the press since its founding, among which more than 140 won national and provincial awards, including the nomination of Minghui Hokyo for the Fourth National Book Award, The Modern Enlightenment of the Disappearance of Civilization for the Sixth National Book Award, General History of the Mongolian Nation for the Fourteenth China Book Award, nominations of Treasures of Inner Mongolia and Epic of Ordos for the Second Chinese Government Publishing Award and the Fourth Excellent Chinese Book Award, The Primitive Folk Beliefs Culture recommended by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television as one of the first 100 books of ethnic minorities to be recommended nationwide, Nectar Plants of Ordos and Tribute to the Ancient Grassland Culture of China selected for the third and fourth “three one-hundred” original publishing project by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, Foreign Language and Historical Literature in Inner Mongolia and Fauna of Inner Mongolia selected as for the 400 Excellent Books under key national publishing plan during the 12th Five-Year Plan.
